overcast beach day

The lowdogs have been laying low lately (no pun intended). Work projects have overcome me and I haven't had a chance to post as often as I'd like. But today was scrumdillyicious because we got to take some time off and go to the beach with the lowdogs, despite the funky weather.

A woman at the beach asked me how old Molly and Toula were, and when I told her Molly was 9 and Toula 7 she was amazed. "Most older Bassets I see are FAT!" she said.

"That's because people overfeed them," I said, "and it's sad because they were bred for hunting rabbits. They can run pretty fast."

She looked at me with a, Yeah, whatever..., look in her eye, but I said, "Give her a few minutes and you'll see...". Here's what we got. Zoom! Pretty good for an old lady of 9. Note the skitter-pat-skitter-pat sound made by her flipper feet.

(That's Big D at the very end saying, "Moll-moll..., one of his 67 his pet names for Molly.)

So, how do we know when it's time to go home? When Molly looks like this. I thought the sand and dirt was bad enough, but about 3 minutes later she found a stinky pile of kelp and rolled around in it. Lord, save me, I love that dog.

That looked like a great day at the beach!
Enjoyed your video clips. As for rolling in stinky things......tell me about it!
Bailey is the champion roller and Martha is beginning to find out how much fun it can be!
We agree a lot of bassets are fed too much also a lot dont get enough exercise - our two run about no bother at all. Harry, predeccessor, ran about in the woods but HATED the beach!
We have missed you guys! xxx

Oh how I love Molly and Toula videos!! This brought a smile to my face. I am so impatient and anxious that I always watch the video first then read the post. I re-watched it just to hear the sounds Molly's feet made. Wonderful! I just love Basset pairs - Molly & Toula, Martha & Bailey... Bluebonnet & Clementine!

We loved your video and flipper feet music! My daughter ran K9 fun runs with her basset, Dolly, and would win! We lived on a farm so she was kept in good shape and was a great sprinter. My first sighting of hounds was on Galveston Beach 35 years ago and there was a pair frolicking and rolling. That was it for me, hounds furever! I need to watch the video again...

You just have to love basset videos, I have a pair of hounds myself, and they have been known to roll in the nastiest of things.

We enjoyed your vidoes of the day at the beach. We gots to admit, our bassets are quite over weigh - esp. snoopy ... she runs but only in rare spurts - apart from that she's usually on her side catching zzzzzz. :P
